A billionaire’s submarine is tempest-tossed…

SYNOPSIS: Billionaires are kings on the surface, gods really, but they become human and mortal at the bottom of the ocean.

In the depths of the deepest sea trench lurks Terrestrial, the brilliant inventor whose fortune was usurped by a greedy billionaire. Terrestrial is our Prospero, the adoptive father of the last Atlantian and the master of a kraken named Ariel, and whose thirst for revenge comes out when the betraying billionaire, his dreaming child, a scheming sea-captain, and a half-man/half-machine crewman take a submarine through the Bermudee triangle.

WHY THIS PLAY: There’s physical comedy and lots of opportunities for inventive design as the sea is populated by umbrella jellyfish, oarfish, parrotfish, and more. Imbedded in this play is an environmentalist message, though it’s story-forward. There’s queer coding that can be activated if you have the cast, but is not necessary to produce the play.

This small cast re-imagination of Shakespeare’s The Tempest points out that when the problems of the powerful are turned into a family drama, many people are impacted.
