Small Steps: Virtual Performance Edition

A play for social distancing written before it was cool.

Casting: 7 Actors*

* Can still be produced with three performers

SYNOPSIS: Finally fed up with the bot-and- disappointment-filled world of online gay dating, Skip Powers volunteers to go to Mars. The National Association of Space Astronauts says, “Hell yes, you leave in a week.”

This is a comedy that travels 50 million miles and a million years.

ABOUT THE VIRTUAL PERFORMANCE EDITION: Act 1: When Skip is selected to be the first person to step on Mars, he goes into quarantine. Act 2: Skip heads to Mars. Alone.

This play is a campy dark-ish comedy about loneliness, and was already ideal for an adaptation for a distance / Zoom performance. And it’s not about a pandemic.

The Virtual Performance Edition was workshopped and developed with Bike City Theatre and the Catalyst New Works Festival

The original play was developed at the 2017 JAW Festival.

It was also developed at Playwrights’ Week at the Lark 201TO READ THE PLAY: Check out the New Play Exchange or email Briandaniel
